What is anger?

Anger is a natural basic human emotion that is often used to express negative feelings. We believe that anger is a secondary emotion, usually a reaction to underlying emotions such as frustration, hurt, loss, or disrespect. Road rage, violent behavior, verbal abuse, aggression, intimidation, and lack of empathy, are examples of issues that benefit from anger management. The goal of our program is to teach people to identify, understand and defuse their own anger by learning healthy expressions of anger that are acceptable to society, so that violence and self-destructive behavior can be avoided.

Why Marin Anger Management?

As Certified Anger Management Facilitators, we provide a safe educational environment to assist individuals in recognizing, managing, and expressing their emotions, particularly their anger. Marin Anger Management uses the Anderson & Anderson intervention program developed by George Anderson, the technical consultant for the movie, “Anger Management” with Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. This program and the certification training is the most effective and most widely recognized curriculum in the world today with facilitators nationwide and in 10 countries. This model is now used by Fortune 500 Companies, schools, colleges, as well as governmental agencies such as the U.S. Postal Service, and in all 32 Prisons in the State of California.

The Marin Anger Management Program consists of two portions: assessment and skill enhancement. We use the Conover Anger Management Assessment in the initial interview. This assessment tool focuses on the participant’s level of functioning in managing stress and anger, their communication abilities, and their emotional intelligence. We also conduct a post-test at termination of the program to determine the level of success achieved by the client. The Anderson and Anderson structured workbooks focus on enhancing emotional intelligence, improving assertive communication, as well as suggesting behavioral strategies for recognizing, dealing with, and managing anger and stress. Our compassionate certified staff delivers the information in a professional manner with empathic, non-judgmental, and respectful consideration.

The Marin Anger Management Program

Our program is designed for self-referrals, human resource departments, employers, schools, and court mandated Anger Management referrals. We also offer highly specialized executive coaching services for executives, police officers, firefighters, medical personnel, managers, and anyone else who needs help in dealing with stress and anger in the workplace. Sessions for couples, families and small groups are also available to help deal with anger issues affecting interpersonal relationships. It is important to understand that anger is a response to things we cannot control or are not pleased with. While we cannot eliminate anger, we can learn to deal with it in a way that is both acceptable to society and not destructive to ourselves. The more practice one has at controlling one’s anger, the better one becomes at putting these concepts into use by mastering the skills necessary to remove the pain associated with anger from their lives.
